September Class Timetable

Red Tree studio is committed to bringing an interest in and love of art and crafts to children.
Our classes teach techniques that may be used independently at home - watch as your child's creativity grows!

We use recycled/reused/reclaimed materials wherever possible and have chosen a carbon neutral venue.

Classes are held in the Lower Merri Room at CERES Community Environment Park, corner of Roberts and Stewart Streets, Brunswick East.

Cost: Early birds $38 per class (book by September 7) or $43 (book after September 7.)
Book two or more classes and save 10%.

All classes are three hours and all materials are included.

Bring lunch and stay for the day (students supervised and activities provided during one hour break.)

My House - Painted Acrylic Canvases

Monday June 28

For Ages 5-12

Create yourself a painted house! Use acrylic paint, oil pastels, fabric and square, rectangular and triangular canvases to make your current house or your dream house. Learn tips and tricks to produce paint effects, create textures and mask areas.

Robot Assemblage

Monday June 28

For ages 5-12

Let your imagination run wild! Use metal elements, paper and card to create a collaged robot with all the buttons and dials you can imagine. We will look at examples of robots in comics, movies and vintage tin toys for inspiration.

Terrific Textures

For ages 5-8

Discover elements of art such as line, texture, pattern and colour. Create a cool artwork incorporating drawing, painting, stamping, printing and collage. You will view picture book illustrations (by some of the best illustrators) and be inspired by their techniques and colour palettes.

Puppet Workshop

For ages 5-8

Use recycled and reclaimed materials to create puppets including ballerinas, sportspeople, animals and aliens - it's your choice! We will discover a variety of puppet types including string/marionettes, finger and glove puppets.

Printed Portraits

For ages 5-12

Create a large scale portrait or self portrait using a variety of readily available printing materials such as bubble wrap, netting, cardboard, erasers, lids and sponges. Learn dry brush painting techniques to create hairstyles. You will look at cartoons and the illustrator Ed Emberley to discover ideas, tricks and tips about shape, proportion and exaggeration.

Cool Collage

For ages 5-12

Create small and large scale animal collages using printed and textured papers. Experiment with shapes and paper cutting techniques. You will look at the cut paper collages of Henri Matisse and the illustrations of Charley Harper to inspire you.

Sock Softies

For ages 9-12

Use socks to create a unique softie toy. Learn cutting, sewing and stuffing techniques to create a monster, alien, animal or anything at all! You'll definitely be inspired by the examples of softies made by makers in Australia and around the world.

Embroidered Collage

For ages 9-12

Use threads, buttons, beads, fabrics, handmade and japanese papers to create an amazing collage of geometric shapes. Learn cutting, stitching and beading techniques. Discover the colour theory and fine art techniques used by artist Sonia Delaunay to make your colour combinations pop!

Nature Drawings

For ages 7-12

Use indoor plants, succulents, cut flowers, pods and seeds as inspiration to create a modern twist on nature drawings. You will use coloured fine-liners in bold combinations to create an intricate line drawing. Collage elements will complete your masterpiece.

Kokeshi - Japanese Wooden Dolls

For ages 5-12

Kokeshi are traditional Japanese wooden dolls. Look at and touch real Kokeshi from Japan and discover the painting techniques used to create them. Make your own kimono girl or samurai using a wooden form, painting techniques and Japanese chiyogami paper.

'Stained Glass' Art

Discover amazing historical and contemporary examples of stained glass art. Be inspired to create a bold artwork with a 'stained glass' effect using markers, paint pens and acetate.

Paper Mosaics

For ages 5-12

Reinterpret the ancient art of mosaic by creating a mosaic using recycled magazine papers chosen for their colours and patterns. Use a template shape (such as a fish, heart, rainbow, car rabbit, flower or rainbow) or come up with your own design.

Printmaking - Monoprinting and Printing Foam

Explore two printmaking techniques (monoprinting and inscribing printing foam) to create your own artworks on the theme of people in motion. Learn tips and tricks for realistically drawing sportspeople and dancers in motion.

Mobiles

For ages 7-12

This crafty sculpture will mesmerise you for hours! Create a stunning wood, wire, fabric and cardboard mobile. You will be inspired by the organic shapes and styles of artists Jean Arp and John Coburn.

Cubist Animals

For ages 7-12

Discover and discuss the work of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Learn techniques for blending and building colour and use the theory and techniques of cubism to create a pastel drawing of your favourite animal on a coloured background.
